After a 9 hour flight arrived at Melbourne. When I got my bags, went through customs, where all bags have been x-rayed again. They detected my diving knife, so I had to change my declaration. Funny, I never saw customs x-raying everything. Here they are very strict, especially the asian people who are bringing in a lot of their food have some problems there.
My Aunt Eli and her husband John picked me up and we drove home. For dinner we went to a Pub, which was a combination of kids-area, gambling hall with money-eating machines and restaurant. You are buying your drinks at the counter and bring them to your table. The food is served by waiters. Funny combination, after eating everyone could have fun in his designated area.
Back at home took a nap at the balcony over my laptop and also a nap at the sofa. But I was able to stay up until midnight, so my jet lag the next day was not too bad.
Monday 31th was the hottest day in summer here so far, the thermometer reached 44 degrees in the city. Had to go to a doctor, brought a little infection with me from Thailand, nothing serious.
In the night, everyone was soo lazy because of the heat which was still over 30 degrees. My other Aunt Anna with her husband Emilio joined us. And at midnight it was so silent, I heard nearly no fireworks. It is so dry here that open fires are forbidden and fireworks are banned from shops. You need to have a special permit to buy and use fireworks. So it was a very lazy and silent new year....
On Tuesday we had a BBQ, it was still very hot, so we have eaten inside their air-conditioned living room. Funny I have eaten BBQ inside many times, because of rain or because of cold, but never because of the heat. Then opened the pool and cooled down there. Tomorrow will do some sightseeing, the forecast is only 25 degrees, perfect for some walk-around within Melbourne.
